Do you have dreams for your life and your career? Are you worried that you may not achieve them? If you are then do not worry as this is perfectly natural and a thought process which most people have. The reason for this fear is because most people do not in fact achieve their dreams, many don’t even get close. With this being said you certainly can achieve your dreams if you have the right approach, just like my good friend Michelle L Marquez. I met Michelle through a group of friends at law school and her dream was to work in the stock exchange. Now these days there are ladies working across the exchange in places like the securities commission, fraud teams, arbitration and we even have female traders, but in the past, it was almost impossible for women to work in this field. Michelle achieved her dreams despite the slim chances and here is how.
Michelle had a clear path for what she wanted to achieve, she knew what she wanted, and she had reverse engineered her dreams to identify what route she needed to take. In doing this you can identify any potential obstacles that will stand in your way and you can make a plan for how to overcome them. Michelle went through all of the steps on her pathway and eventually arrived at her destination.
The road to achieving your dreams will be far from simple, regardless of what they are and you must be tenacious in your pursuit. There will be bumps in the road, there will be people who don’t believe in you and there will be times when you get knocked down. The difference however between those that do achieve their dreams and those that don’t comes down to whoever is able to get back up, dust themselves down and go again, and again, and again until they achieve what they want.
If you want to really achieve your dreams then they can’t be something that you pick up and put down whenever it suits you, in fact they must consume you. Michelle mentioned where she was heading on our very first meeting and although it was wildly ambitious, her fervor and passion for what she wanted to achieve was so strong that I genuinely believed that she would be able to get there. Her resolve was unshakeable, and nothing would get in her way.
If achieving your dreams was easy then everyone would do it, the truth is however that not everyone achieves their dreams and if this is something that you want to do, you must be prepared to work for it. Hard work is the foundation of goal-getting and this is why you must be ready to roll up your sleeves and keep pushing and striving until you get to where you want to go.
Believe in yourself and let people like Michelle Marquez inspire you, do that and you can go and achieve those dreams.
