Brasilia
For an altogether different and incredibly modern city in Brazil, head to the nation’s capital Brasilia, this purpose-built capital is a huge metropolis which has its infrastructure designed like an airplane. The city has huge squares to visit and is packed with incredible architecture from one of Brazil’s most famous designers, Oscar Niemeyer. The cathedral, public library and the twisting bridge are must visit places on a visit to the capital.
Fortaleza
Fearless sits on the north-east of the country and offers beaches that rival those in Rio, there is a live culture here, lots of great shopping to be found and it makes for the perfect break if you’re heading up north towards the Amazon. The beaches here are fully functioning beaches that offer great opportunities for swimming, surfing and plenty of other beach sports. Fortaleza often falls under the radar but this a visit to this beautiful location will make wonder why it does get more attention.
Manaus
Manaus, in the north west of Brazil is the gateway to the Amazon rainforest, this quiet location in Brazil is incredibly traditional and offers a hot and humid climate. One of the most interesting things to see in Manaus is the meeting of the waters, a strange phenomenon that sees the two rivers of Negro and Solimões run along side each other for 3 miles without touching. If you are planning on doing any kind of trip through the Amazon then Manaus is the best jumping off point. Despite being one of Brazil’s largest cities, much of Manaus has a town-like atmosphere that let’s you see a different side to Brazil than the beach locations offer.
