How to Style a Ladder Bookshelf

Wherever you live, good shelving is a key investment. Whether you live in a studio flat and you’re seeking clever ways to maximise the space or you need somewhere classy to display your favourite things in your family home, the right shelves can make things look chic and stylish.

One particular type of shelving that’s particularly fun to style is the ladder bookshelf. These are fabulous additions that work well in an array of spaces and can really add a sophisticated touch.

If you’re thinking of adding a ladder bookshelf to your home, here are some inspired ideas to make it look lovely.

Choose Wisely

Firstly, if you’re yet to buy your ladder bookshelf, make sure you select one that suits your home and personal sense of style. Consider your current colour scheme and ensure that the one you choose suits the existing set up. Something as simple as opting for a colour that doesn’t quite fit with the rest of the room can make the space incohesive.

By finding one that will slot into the existing colour palette, you’ll find that it can help to bring everything together. Research the different ladder bookshelves out there and visit well-known names, such as Cox & Cox, to get an idea of what’s available that could work in your home.

Show Off

Once you know which bookshelf you want, you can then start to plan where everything will go. Make a note of the photos that you love and the clock that will fit perfectly, as well as any other pieces you’d like to include and spend some time thinking about how you want it to look.

Do you want your engagement photo to take pride of place or would you like to move your standing mirror to the left-hand side of the middle shelf? Swap things around until you’re happy with the layout and take your time. After all, this is where you’re showcasing some of your favourite things, so you want to make sure they’re in the right place

Add Some Greenery

As well as photos and personal trinkets, why not add a house plant or two? If you’re green-fingered and want to include a plant that requires a specific amount of light, you may find that you have to move the shelving so that it’s in the optimal position for getting some sunlight.

If, on the other hand, you’ve never been good with greenery but still want to add a plant to your beautiful bookshelf, try a cactus or air plant. These are easy to look after and there are some fabulous pots available to add a pop of colour.
