Planning a Weekend Getaway

You’ve decided that you need some time away, need to escape the realities of life if only for a few days. This is the perfect time to schedule a weekend getaway. Two, maybe three blissful days spent relaxing and drowning out the noise of work and financial responsibilities that will still be waiting when you get back. The questions you face are where do you go and what do you do?

Decide On Your Destination

Deciding on your destination is the first step to planning your weekend trip. Choose an area that you can easily drive to in a few hours, avoid flying if you can because it will cut down on the amount of time you have to enjoy yourself. For example, if you live in central or southern California, consider a San Diego hotel and resort as your destination. Here, you’ll enjoy the best of both the coastline and city life without having to drive more than a few hours. If you live in a coastal state, consider a trip to the beach. Inland, you can find many quiet locations or you can even opt to take a trip to visit the local theme parks and spend a weekend living it up.

What Activities to Include

While two or three days is a good amount of time to reset, it’s not a lot of time to fit in multiple activities. Don’t go creating a full agenda and always leave free time to fit in activities that you may discover when you arrive.

You’ll have to decide what it is you want to do. Do you want to spend the day in nature, hiking and enjoying being outdoors? Or, would you prefer to sit poolside with a good book and a glass of wine? For popular activities such as parasailing or skydiving, be sure you book well ahead of time to guarantee you can participate. If you’re taking an impromptu trip without much planning ahead, consider activities that don’t require an advance reservation such as a theme park or hitting the beach.

What to Pack

Weekend trips are short, so you don’t need to go overboard with your packing. Instead, pack lightly, taking along only the essentials. Include a few changes of clothes, your necessary toiletries and call it a day. It’s also important to pack accordingly. If you’re planning to work out or take a jog, be sure to include your workout clothes including shorts, pants or even a racerback bra if you need one.

If you plan on enjoying the nightlife or dining at a fancy restaurant, pack your club or formal wear so you know you’ll meet the dress code requirements. Otherwise, don’t really stress too much because you can always hit the local shops to find what you need.

Weekend trips are meant to be fun while giving you the chance to explore an area that you may not have been to before. Don’t think too hard about what to bring or what to do. Find a destination that calls to you and the rest will fall right into place.
