Keeping your Fitness Motivation Sky High

Due to the stresses and demands of everyday life, it can often be difficult to maintain a good fitness/health routine. Time constraints being what they are, it is all too easy to say ‘I’ll do it tomorrow’ and then tomorrow gets further and further away. It is always easier to promise that the you of tomorrow will exercise, rather than you today. However, the main mistake we often make is to forget that maintaining our fitness is not only required to help maintain our physique but also to benefit our health overall.

Having a good level of fitness is a sure fire way in which to reduce our chances of contracting some ailments including diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity and high cholesterol. For this reason, maintaining our fitness is more than just keeping our bodies trim and taut. However, to protect our health, it is essential that we exercise properly to prevent injury and get the most from our workouts.

Doing exercises outdoors provides us with the benefits of fresh air and varying scenery which for some is pivotal in maintaining their focus and motivation. When exercising outdoors, it is important that you warm up before you commence with your workout, and always remember to cool down at the end. A low impact warms up routine is vital before exercise as you are warming up the muscles which in turn will make them more supple and limber. It will help your muscles to stretch with ease which will help to eliminate injury. Warm ups are also important to eliminate injury to the joints or nerves.

Many will often disregard the importance of a cool down, but this can be pivotal in increasing your body’s ability to recover from exercise. Cooling down will help your muscles relax which can eliminate stiffness following exercise. It can also help your heart rate to lower naturally which aids in helping you feel relaxed and stress-free following your exercise. Stretching is also a vital factor of your exercise regime as not only eliminate potential injury but will help you to excel in your workouts and can even aid in improving your posture. It is important to stretch gently and increase the pressure gradually. Over stretching can result in a pulled muscle which can be painful and can limit the amount of exercise you can complete for a period. Pushing yourself too far can also be a recipe for disaster as over working your muscles can make them more vulnerable to injury. For this reason, it is always beneficial to combine low-intensity workouts with higher intensity activity.

In today’s day and age, it can be hard to combine regular exercise with the demands of everyday life. At times when you are unable to visit the gym, try to slot in lighter exercise such as a half hour walk. Even the smallest bursts of exercise will aid in maintaining your fitness which in turn, can help you stave off colds and illnesses. When you are exercising, always remember to listen to your body. Should you feel ill at any time, always stop your regular exercise routine until you feel well enough to continue. Should you injure yourself or certain exercises become uncomfortable or painful, seek advice from a fitness expert or your doctor and avoid these exercises until the discomfort has passed. During, before and after your workouts, you should always ensure to drink plenty of water. Water should not just be utilized to combat thirst but also to hydrate your whole body. Allowing your body to become dehydrated can result in fatigue and headaches so maintain to drink plenty of water whether you are thirsty or not.
