Don’t let the installation put you off real wood flooring

The appearance of a real wood flooring can transform the room as well as being extremely practical. However, installing a new floor can become expensive when you start the add together all the costs. The one area where many decide to cut costs is during the fitting process and with some fitters charging up to £15 per square meter you can understand why.

The thought of installing a real wood product can often put people off and forces them to purchase an artificial product such as laminate or vinyl instead. This should not be the case as the fitting process is simple. There is a variety of real wood products on the market that come with a joining method of either click or tongue and groove.

A tongue and groove product can be installed as a floating floor, nailed down or glued down. All you require when installing a floating floor is underlay, PVA wood glue and a joint locking tool. You simply place PVA wood glue along the tongue of one plank and insert this into the groove of another plank; simple. It is not necessary, however if you would like to further secure a tongue and groove product to the subfloor you can nail or glue down the floor. You would nail the joints to the subfloor or floor joists using a professional flooring gun to reduce any movement. Gluing down a floor has the same effect as adhesive is placed on the subfloor and planks are placed on top of the adhesive.

That may sound a little confusing, therefore if you are not comfortable installing a tongue and groove product, then a click product should be purchased.

A click joining method is a revolutionary product that is manufactured to make life easy. Also known as click lock or interlocking the product is self-explanatory as the joints simply clicktogether. Due to the strength of the interlocking joint, there is no need for any PVA wood glue to be applied. Many describe the installation of click flooring to be similar to completing a jigsaw. However, it may be even easier than completing a jigsaw due to the fact you will not have to spend hours finding missing pieces.

The same click system is used when installing laminate flooring products. Therefore, the decision between laminate and engineered flooring should be based on appearance alone and most definitely not on the ease of installation.

So there you have it, a breakdown of just a couple of methods to install your wood floor, of course if you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself there are plenty of professionals who offer services to do it for you.
